Excerpt –Hot Dreams of a Lonely Soul (Emily A. Lawrence)

Carly almost jumped when she heard the sound of her doorbell. “Damn it, who could it be at this hour?” She put on the first nightgown she found in her drawer, pulled a robe on as well, and rushed to the door. Her belly flip-flopped, and her breath caught in her throat when she peeked through the peephole and saw the man in her dreams waiting patiently on the other side of the door. She brushed her fingers through her hair in agitation, not sure whether to let him in or not. A part of her jumped up and down with excitement, but the other was frozen in place, afraid to be alone in her apartment in the middle of the night with a man she barely knew but so much desired. A sudden impulse made her grab the key and unlock the door, which brought her face to face with him.

She blinked perplexed, and the eerie feeling came back to her. He looked over her from head to toe, mouth partly opened. His hair looked as though he had been running his fingers through it, perhaps even grasping strands in frustration. He hadn't shaved for several days and the dark stubble lining his chin made him look rather scruffy. Even so, his untidy appearance still attracted her, and his now familiar musky scent combined with his cologne caused her insides to liquefy. “Mr. Benton, it is way past midnight. What are you doing here?” she asked drily. Shivers ran up and down her spine, as she clutched the doorknob for balance.

“May I come inside?”

Carly hesitated concerned, battling the fears she deemed herself powerless against.

Sunday Snippets - Whitney K-E

Today, I'm sharing a little about my and my debut, What Happens in Ireland! Hope you enjoy it!

- Please tell us your pen name.  Your book title, genre type, and series name, if applicable.

Whitney K-E. My debut release’s title is What Happens in Ireland and it is a Contemporary romance.

- 3 words to describe yourself.

Talkative, friendly, funny.

- 3 people you would like to thank. (For example, your publisher, your cover artist, your editor, or someone special in your life)

Gosh, only three? But there are so many! I guess though, top three would be my Publisher, Beth Walker, my editor ELF and my cover artist, Dawne Dominque. They turned my story into a book!

- 1 sentence to describe your book.

A humorous contemporary about an Australian woman learning that the Irish charm is a hard thing to resist and that sometimes, trust once lost, can be regained.

- An excerpt from your book, approximately 300 words long.

“Why do you always have to be so sarcastically and annoyingly persuasive?” Kate sighed, accepting the fact that there was no graceful way out of this situation.

“Because it’s a wonderful skill that gets stubborn, beautiful women to give me a chance,” Jack replied.

Kate’s heart skipped. “Bullshit.”

“That it is.”

“What?”

Any second now and pigs are going to fly by.

The man had just admitted he was a bullshit artist. He was unbelievable!

Jack stopped and turned to her. Kate barely resisted the urge to look away.

“The truth is. Yer the only beautiful, stubborn woman I’ve ever met, Kate. And I’ve been arrogant far longer than I’ve known ye.”

It felt as if the ground beneath her was going to give way. What was she supposed to do?

“Therefore.” He leaned in to whisper against her ear. “I am at yer mercy.”

“My mercy?”

“That’s what I said.”

Kate smiled. “My, my. Whatever shall I do with you, Jack?”

“I hope at least half the things I wish to do to ye,” he teased, his calloused palm inching between her jacket and shirt.

“Keep dreaming, Irish,” she said dryly, though her breath was ragged.

“I will, but it remains to be seen whether they’ll come true.” The man was all confidence and skilled seduction.

Kate smirked. “Only an Irishman would say that.”

“Only a beautiful, stubborn lass would ignore the truth.”

Sunday Snippets with Carol Preflatish

Welcome to Sunday Snippets with TRM.

Please tell us your pen name.  Your book title, genre type, and series name, if applicable.

Hi, I'm Carol Preflatish and I write romantic suspense, although lately I've ventured into sweet romance and contemporary westerns.

3 words to describe yourself.

Funny, dedicated, and helper.

3 people you would like to thank.

I always want to thank my husband. He doesn't read my books, but he does help if I have a question that he's able to answer. I also thank my best friend, Sandy. She's my sounding board and always willing to listen to an idea and give me her honest opinion. Lastly, I thank my mother. She loves reading romances. I used to call them her smut books before I started writing them. She's my number one fan.

1 sentence to describe your book.

The last person Grace Taylor wanted to see was her old boyfriend, Andy Granger, but that's exactly who was standing in front of her on the porch of the ranch.

An excerpt from your book, approximately 300 words long.

"Tell us about your boyfriend, Grace," Maria teased. "You did have a high school sweetheart, didn't you?"
"Well, yes."
"What did he look like?" Silvia inquired.
"He was just an average guy."
Lucy's drink was served and she took a gulp. "Next question, how old were you when you lost your virginity?"
As Grace opened her mouth, someone behind her spoke. "She was sixteen."
She recognized that voice and turned to find Andy standing behind her.
"What are you doing here?"
"Grace, aren't you going to introduce us?" Lucy said, standing.
"He's not worth an introduction." She turned back to the table.
"I'm Lucy Marlow and you are?" She extended her hand and took his.
"Andy Granger, Grace's high school sweetheart."
"And, apparently the man she lost her virginity to," Lucy said, still holding his hand. "Would you like to join us? We'd love to hear stories about our Grace."
"No, he wouldn't." Grace stared at Andy.
He apparently got the message. "No, I can't. I just wanted to stop by and say hello." He pulled away from Lucy's grasp and walked back to the bar where he joined his buddies.
"Pity," Lucy said, watching him walk away. "Grace, he's hot as hell. Was he that good-looking as a teenager?"
"We parted on bad terms, so I'd just as soon not talk about him."
"We understand," Silvia said.
"Now wait a minute. So, you have no interest in him?" Lucy asked.
"None."
"Then, you wouldn't mind if I went over and talked to him?"
Grace knew that meant Lucy would do everything she could to get him into bed tonight. But, what could she do? She had no claim to him, and, as soon as this weekend was over, she didn't plan on ever seeing him again. "Not at all. Talk to him all you want."
That's all Lucy needed to hear. She jumped up and sauntered over to the bar where Andy sat with his buddies.
"I can't believe you let her do that," Maria said. "You know what she has in mind."
"I have no feelings for him."
"That's not how it looked when you heard his voice behind you just now."

Thank you, Carol, for joining us on The Romantic Muse Blogspot.
